Active/Inactive syncronise between 2 machines

I use 2 (Win 11) PC’s - 1 at home (main design machine) and 1 in my workshop (design and CNC/Laser operations).

I have various design software using fonts on both machines, and I would like to know if, and hopefully how, I can synchronise the active/inactive fonts between the machines. As it is now, I still have to activate the fonts on the 2nd machine to match the other so I can continue working with design files using ‘active’ fonts.

I have tried installing FontBase on my D drive, which is Google synced between machines, but on each end, the active/inactive fonts do not match.

I would greatly appreciate any input/guidance on whether this can be done.

Thank you in advance

James

Hello James, thank you for your post and welcome to the forum :pray:
As far as I know, at least for now, there is no direct way to activate a font from one machine and have it activated on both.
A less direct and convenient, but still doable way could be to:

  • install FontBase on both machines locally (no need to install it on the shared drive);
  • set the Root folder location for both FontBase instances to the same location on your Google-synced D drive (e.g. D:/FontBase);
  • create a dedicated folder inside the Root folder and enable “Autoactivate” (via the right-click menu in FontBase) for it on both FontBase instances. It’s icon within the app will turn blue;
  • now any supported font file you add inside this folder will be activated as soon as a FontBase instance recognises and adds the font.
    Does this make sense? Sorry if it’s a bit convoluted:)

Thank you again,

Hi Yuriy, thanks for taking the time to help out.

I have implemented your suggestion and it works, but I cannot manage it from within FontBase, I have to drag/drop from within Windows Explorer - which is a bit uncomfortable and takes me away from the benefits of FontBase.

I understand my use case will be unique, maybe, and I am going to have a poke around with using Symbolik links and other stuff.

If I find a way to do it I will post back here in case it helps someone else in the future.

Cheers, James
