I use Fontbase already for some time but until now not the auto-activation because of speed loss in InDesign. So after a time increasing activated fonts the system gets slow due to the amount of activated fonts ;-). So I decided to use now auto-activation und immediately encountered a problem (I would call it a bug because of normal workflow issue): If auto-activation activates a font used in a document and I checked decativate on close this is OK and works. But if a font IS already activated in my system and I open the document, it also will be DEACTIVATED on close! Fontbase should deactivate only AUTO-activated fonts on close!
Otherwise if I don’t use deactivation on close it fills my system again with activated fonts …
Has anyone a suggestion? (Windows 10/11)
Regards, Matt
Hello @Matty, thank you for your post:)
Just tested it and yeah, you’re right, thank you for pointing this out
Will have a look as to what the reason is.
Thank you again,

Hi @Matty, the solution does seem possible, yes. That’s the good news. The not-so-good news is that there is no definitive deadline I could give you on when this will be up and running, very sorry about this. Doing what we can, please bear with us
I’ve just migrated to FontBase from Extensis Connect. Overall, the auto-activate feature works extremely well, and I’d say it seems to be smoother and simpler than the Extensis take on things.
That said, I noticed the same issue as the OP regarding auto-deactivate affecting fonts that I have manually activated instead of just the auto-activated ones. It’s not a huge problem for me, because I have the fonts I want permanently activated in their own folder, and it’s easy to just turn them back on, but it does add a step to my workflow. I really hope to see this fine tuned in the future, as this is the only significant issue I’ve had with FontBase so far.
You are right. I also came from Extensis some years ago (stopped there when they began with annual payment) and also Extensis was very heavy in the system, slow and worked not smoothly every time.
Fontbase is quick and mostly without any problem. So we hope for this fix.
