Currently, the font selector on the preview tab seems to have a small and random selection of fonts to test out. What’s the point of having a preview tab if I can’t test out any of the fonts I have installed/activated?

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum 
The list is displaying not a small or a random selection of fonts, but all the fonts you have added to FontBase, this is by design, so you could preview them before activation if needed. Thank you for the idea of adding a filter to display only the activated fonts, sounds useful
