Could not update- what to do? (RESOLVED)

Please include the following when reporting a bug:

  • Your operating system- Windows 11
  • Operating system version-
  • FontBase version- 2.20.7
  • What actions caused the issue- dont know
  • If possible, attach a screenshot- yes

I get this info box when opening the app- “Could not donwload update”.
I’ve seen it a couple of times now, but it disappears so fast.
Went to see what version i had vs what updates had been released. Clearly I’m missing the last one.

I see its possible to download it, but I’m hesitant to just install the download. I’m so afraid it will delete or mess up the font files an collections I currently have. And the plug-in settings and what not, because i have no idea how i made it all work (with Adobe also), and my ADHD apparently refuse to understand it.

Also, It is supposed to just update automatically when opening the program right?

Should i just double tap and install the update.

Hello @NK.DK, thank you for your post
And a separate thank you for the detailed explanation, it is really really useful
I completely understand your worrying, makes total sense. Indeed, it’s possible that the update download cannot go through as it should, sadly :pensive:
Fortunately, there is a way the bulletproof the process:)
Before doing anything else, to have the peace of mind and just in case, please make a reserve copy of this folder C:/Users/USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/FontBase. Then, just as you said, simply double click the newly downloaded FontBase 2.21.0 and follow the on-screen instructions:)
In the very unlikely case something won’t go as planned, you can then uninstall FontBase, download v2.20.7 via the direct link, then replace the above mentioned folder with the reserve copy you’ll have made in advance and it will restore everything to exactly as things were before you made any changes.
Please let us know if it worked out

Thank you again,

Hello.
Thank you for answering so fast! And for the detailed description. It vas extremely helpful!

I could not find the folder you were referring to (AppData/Roaming/Fontbase)- but i found a Fontbase folder. Copied that and the folder i believe is my root folder (i think they are practically the same/have the rootfolder ind it) and just zipped and saved them both.

I updated via the download and it all seems to be working fine now.
I tried to install a new font to see if it would work like before and it did. And i see i now have the newest version.

Thank you very much!

Glad it worked out and thank you for your continuous support

Thank you again,
Yuriy
