FontBase is trying to add a new helper tool

This is becoming really annoying and repetitive on many Macs in our agency…

  • MacOS M-class
  • Sequoias 15.7.3
  • FontBase 2.25.3
  • Nothing, the window just keeps popping up! :frowning: constantly …
  • screenshot attached

We never has this with previous versions.

Yes, we have check al the permissions on Privacy too.

Where is FontBase located at, in ~/Applications or in /Applications? This seems to happen when you don’t have all the correct file access rigths and the app is installed inside the /Applications directory (for all users not the current one).

Also, try locating the FontBase.app file, right click it and select Get info. Then in the bottom part of the opened window, there will be a permissions section. Make sure you username is in the list and it has read and write access.

Hi Dominik,

Sorry for the late reply, I’m in the uK.

The FontBase app is located in the Hard Drives Applications folder for all users access (it’s always like that on all our Macs).

I checked the Get Info permisions and its the same as any other App in Applications.

I will next do a deep-dive on these files and delete them for a fresh start…

We do install/update FontBase using MUNKI, though that has never been an issue, I could download it from your website and redo it manually … TBC.

Doing this low-level file search and destroy, follwed by a fresh install from the latest download from your website = has worked for one user.
Doing another users device now… TBC …

This may be only unavoidable on M-Class Macs … hope that helps …?

…and the issue is back again after a few days :frowning:

Could you please try installing this development version and see if the problem persists? https://drive.google.com/file/d/18y8CEF6DmSmBBqi-1xhFdfIM6QFuq-Oi/view?usp=sharing Also please provide the log file located at /Users/USERNAME/Library/Logs/FontBase/main.log

Thanks Dominik for all your support ::slight_smile:

Here is the soltuionI have found… .. and it is not your Software? It is Apples security?
The issues lay with Systems Preferences → Privacy & Security → Full Disc Access → FontBase.
This trigger just was not updating I believe.

I was inspired by this Reddit Post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1qhf4xm/fix_keka_repeatedly_asking_for_file_access/
Method 3: Force “Full Disk Access”

My process was as follows, and it worked for INTEL and M1 Macs.

ok the fontbase helper alert window with admin passwords

turn off fontbase in system prefs → privacy & security → full disc access

quit font base

wait

launch fontbase

keep ok’ing alert window with admin passwords [twice?]

quit font base

turn off fontbase in system prefs → privacy & security → full disc access

launch fontbase

keep ok’ing alert window with admin passwords [twice?]

wait

quit font base

launch fontbase

= good and fixed !

I Hope this helps
