Working on Windows, I’ve noticed that FontBase has been using more CPU lately, to the point that it’s more than my browser (Firefox). It’s only got a 100 fonts activated. Anyone else experience this?
Hello @koksiroj, thank you for your post and welcome to the forum ![]()
Have you added any new fonts recently? The total number of fonts can influence CPU usage as FontBase constantly keeps track of the folders/fonts added into it.
Thank you again,
Hi yuriy
Interesting Issue. I encountered on my old Notebook (early gen Intel I7, about 10 years old) also a very high CPU usage, but not with my 2023 I7 gen 13 power workstation. Both have the same (huge) amount of fonts and folders installed in watched folders. I dont’t know how fontbase works with CPU cores and RAM. The Notebook lacks with RAM and core speed …

Hello Matthias, thank you for your post ![]()
That is a very odd situation indeed. The first thing that comes to mind is the possible difference in the number of cores, but that is just a guess at this point ![]()
Will need to investigate this further, as in theory this shouldn’t happen of course.
I’ve come across some data indicating that this could be related to the Intel driver version, i.e. the updated ones will be more effective at managing CPU load.
Thank you again,
Thank you for your answer. I’ll watch it and maybe write again, if I discover anything new. The old Notebook isn’t that important any more.
PS: chatGPT confirms the causality with CPU generation, SSD speed, RAM etc. ![]()
