How to work with same font from different vendors/foundries?

I’d like to work with local copies of font files, but because google has their own cloud version of it, they get mixed together in fontbase’s menus.

I have tried creating my own collections and adding only my local files, but they still get mixed together in the collection with other foundries with the same font name. This is very frustrating to work this way, am I overlooking something?

Thank you for your post @germ
One way to work around this would be to remove the Google provider by right-clicking it and selecting “Delete”. Google provider can be restored at any moment after this by right-clicking “PROVIDERS”, then “Import Google fonts”.

Hope this helps,

hi thanks for your response! but no this is not a solution, its a runaround specific to my example.

i still have this issue with many many other fonts, another good example is ‘helvetica’ which is published by several foundries. monotype makes one, adobe makes their version, linotype makes another. each are named ‘helvetica.ttf’ but each are very different, having their own dimensions and character counts, etc.

so my question remains, how do i place each helvetica’ into individual collections when fontbase mixes them together? thanks!!!

Thank you for the quick reply @germ
I completely understand your situation, not specific to Google fonts. If different font foundries include the same basic font data in their files (postscript name, family name etc) then FontBase as it is now will see them as duplicates (they show up in the Family page with their file path relative to the Root folder at the top of the list item). At this moment I’m afraid there is no option to add a specific font file to a collection, I’m sorry :pensive:

ok thanks for the clarification!
