Hi, I’m new to Fontbase, and ‘new again’ to graphic design. I have been a software developer for the last few decades, and haven’t done graphic design since college over 20 years ago.
I found Fontbase as an amazing tool to manage fonts, and to simplify my new graphic design workflow I’m developing for my youtube channel.
I’d love to be able to use a variety of graphics, illustration, and video tools, but Fontbase just doesn’t work for everything.
I have tried to load Fontbase first so that it can ‘pre-cache’ the fonts and then open up the Application later, like Inkscape or Affinity Designer, but that doesn’t seem to work.
Only Applications like Photoshop and Illustrator seem to work ( maybe even Davinci Resolve ), I think these applications tend to ‘watch’ the font folder and update dynamically, but I think they might also tolerate ‘OS file links’ and not require direct access to the file.
I am on Windows 11, and I see this problem on multiple computers in my home. I have not tried this on linux, and I do have a MacOS MBP-M1 but I have not tried it on there.
I have also noticed that ‘watched folders’ break with ‘resilio sync’.
I mention this as, a compatibility mode might be a welcome feature that avoids using ‘symlinks’ or ‘file links’ to virtually point to files and folders. I have a feeling that this technique is not the most compatible method for apps in your primary or secondary workflows.
I’d love it if Fontbase could track my ‘windows default fonts’ and then actually work to install and uninstall the files from the C:/Windows/fonts/ folder by physically putting them in there.
I’m not sure if it’s a permissions issue with the symlinks, or if it’s a virtual vs. actual difference that is affecting the apps, but it definitely makes it impossible to use Fontbase as part of a workflow with anything but Adobe and Davinci products.
