No OTF fonts showing in the software

Hello there,
I’m totaly new to Fontbase. I’m a free user as well.
I have installed lots of OTF fonts on my system. I can only see the TTF fonts. Is there any restriction for free users?

infos:
Windows Edition Windows 11 Pro for Workstations
Version 22H2
OS build 22621.521

fontbase 2.17.5

Hello @abjim, thank you for your post, welcome to the forum and sorry for the delay.
There are no limitations regarding otf/ttf files between the free and subscribed users.
Does this also happen with fonts that only have an otf version without a ttf counterpart added to FontBase?
Thank you again,
Yuriy

Just want to hang in here. I’ve got the exact same problem. The software is showing just TTF fonts, not one OTF font I’ve got. They are not duplicate and I’ve got some fonts which are solely OTF and they won’t show up in the software. Anyone got an idea?

Hello @maxb694, thank you for your post and welcome to the forum
If I may, a few questions to understand the possible cause of this, since I just re-tested everything and FontBase opens and activates OTF fonts without any issues in my case:
How many fonts has this been happening to?
Did they have anything in common besides the .otf file format (e.g. same font design studio, same download source etc)?
As an example, there seem to be no issues with this font - BRONTIDE Font | VPcreativeshop | FontSpace

Thank you again,

Hello @yuriy , thanks for the answer. It’s been happening to all my OTF fonts it doesn’t show any OTF font I’ve got (Round about 10-20 fonts). They haven’t got anything in common, they are from different download sources and font studios etc.

Your example font isn’t showing in my software as well when I’m searching for it it shows the error “These are not the fonts you’re looking for.”
The font is installed properly though as it displays in Word and Photoshop.

Hello @maxb694, thank you for the quick reply
Considering the additional information you provided, could you please double-check if the OTF fonts you’ve mentioned are added into FontBase correctly and are present in the Root folder?

Root folder has been empty. Just dropped one of my OTF fonts into the folder for testing. Now it’s showing in the app. So do I have to transfer all my OTF fonts into this folder? Thought it will recognize them automatically once I’ve installed the fonts.

Thank you for the reply and the additional information @maxb694
FontBase is designed to work with fonts inside of its Root folder, which can be copied there or linked using Watched folders.
From your messages it sounds like you have the Windows Fonts folder added into FontBase - is that correct?

I haven’t added the Windows Fonts folder into FontBase. In fact if I try to change the root folder location in the app into the Windows Fonts folder, it even won’t give me the option since it won’t show the Windows Fonts folder. Is there a possibility to link my Windows Fonts folder as root folder in the app?

Hello @maxb694, thank you for your reply
It’s technically possible, but highly not recommended, as we’ve mentioned here: Root Folder — FontBase Tutorials
“…system fonts are always active by default, FontBase cannot deactivate them. Trying to activate them via FontBase might cause font bugs while you’re using your computer. Nothing a reboot wouldn’t fix, but could still be annoying. For this reason we highly recommend not setting your Root folder location to your system font folder and not adding the system font folder into FontBase.”

Thank you again,
