Root Folder - Mac issues

Hi there! On my windows PC, i am able to set my root folder to a shared folder using one drive, and its been working beautifully! But my Mac doesn’t seem to want to play as nicely. Every time I change the folder to read off the same as the others, it crashes and i get the error message below. Any suggestions, or is this just something Macs cant do? Thanks in advance!!

Sorry for the issue. Does it work if you pick any other root folder location on your computer?

I just tried changing it, and same outcome no matter the location of the folder.

One thing I did forget to mention, right now, my current root folder on the MAC is reading off an external drive (which has been working just fine for a long time now - this was how i originally had all my computers individually set up).
