Variable Google fonts are supposedly supported in the preview tab (can’t search fonts in preview tab so it’s too hard to find them, let alone test them out) BUT when activating a Google font, it only activates predefined styles and not an actual variable otf.
Being able to use Illustrator’s variable menu to adjust Google fonts would be incredible!
This looks like an issue with what font files we are pulling from Google, might be a bug. We need to check on this.

Seems like Google is still hosting non-variable files only in their API, so unfortunately these is nothing we can currently do on our end to change this
