Adobe Illustrator 2026 30.1 Crashes

I am using an iMac 2019 running Sequoia 15.7.3, Adobe Illustrator 30.1, and FontBase 2.25.6.

I recently noticed that when I open a file in Illustrator, the software crashes.

After testing some possible solutions, I was able to temporarily fix the issue by uninstalling the FontBase plugin, opening Illustrator, and then reinstalling the FontBase plugin while Illustrator is open. This is the only way I’ve found to be able to work. Every day I have to go through this routine.

Does anyone know how to permanently fix this issue?

Hello Luiz, thank you for your post and welcome back to the forum :folded_hands:
Would you happen to remember if you’ve had this issue with any previous Illustrator versions?

I was using Illustrator 2026 with the previous version of FontBase without any issues, and suddenly this problem started happening.

I updated FontBase to the latest version, but it didn’t solve the issue.

And before this happened, I had never experienced this issue with any version of either software.

Thank you for the quick reply :folded_hands:
Have there been any Illustrator 2026 updates between when there were no issues and when they started happening?
There don’t seem to be any changes to the plugins between the FontBase versions you’ve mentioned, so it’s unlikely that they are causing the problems themselves, at least not at the moment.

Thank you again,

Illustrator 2026 version 30.2.1 here, everything was ok until I updated macOS Sequoia to version 15.7.4 yesterday. Now I had to uninstall the FontBase plug-in, otherwise Illustrator keeps crashing on opening or creating a file.

It’s the plugin for auto-activation. Just go to Fontbase Settings and remove the Illustrator plugin.

Yes, this is what I’ve been doing every single time I turn on my computer and launch Illustrator. Open Fontbase first, uninstall the plugin, launch Illustrator, install the plugin again.

Is this happening for other Adobe apps, like InDesign and Photoshop if the FontBase plugin is installed there?

Here is only with Adobe Illustrator.
Photoshop is OK.
And I don’t use Indesign.

I mean you don’t need to reinstall the plug-in. The software runs without it.

But if I keep the plugin removed, will the fonts activate automatically?

No. I created a collection with the fonts I need for current projects while a patch is released, and keep active the collection.

@MRArctor @wobbie Hey we are testing a new version of Illustrator plugin. Would it be possible for you to install a new dev version and test it?

Sure. How can I have access to this new plugin?

The plugins can be found here: illustrator-2026-fix - Google Drive just copy the corresponding plugin file into Plug-Ins folder. And make sure you remove the old plugin.

There is WIN in the file’s name, and I am using MAC. Should I proceed ?

There are Mac versions with Mac in filename: FontBase-Mac-Illustrator-2026-M1.aip and FontBase-Mac-Illustrator-2026.aip, thay may looks like folders inside Google drive, but should be as files when you download them.

Did you have a chance to try it?

Hi Dominik,

I followed these steps:

  1. With FontBase open, I removed the Illustrator 2026 plugin using the app itself.
  2. I closed Illustrator and FontBase.
  3. I manually placed the file you provided into the “plugin” folder of Adobe Illustrator.
  4. I opened Illustrator and FontBase again.
  5. I noticed that FontBase did not recognize that there is a plugin installed.
  6. Despite that, the issue apparently has not occurred again, and the fonts seem to be activating automatically.
  7. I think more tests could be done — I haven’t had much time over the past few days.

So the auto-activation is working, correct? And there are no Illustrator crashes?
